In 2023, the Port bought the retired airstrip with the intent to develop it for industrial space. While the Port owns industrial property in the southern half of Whitman County, the Tekoa Industrial Park will be the Port’s first industrial property in the northern part of Whitman County. The Port plans to build shovel-ready lots with all infrastructure necessary for industrial development.
Nestled at the base of Tekoa Mountain, the City of Tekoa is a small, farming community of about 800 people. Tekoa boasts its own school district and a branch of the Whitman County Library. It also has a grocery store, hardware store, two coffee shops, a restaurant, and other services. For recreation, take a dip at the community pool or play a round at the golf course. Once the hub of the area’s railroads, Tekoa is a popular destination for mountain bikers with multiple rails to trails branching off from the town. The Palouse to Cascades Trail runs over the town on a former railroad trestle.
