Free family festival set for Saturday, June 13 at Boyer Park and Marina
Whitman County- The Port of Whitman County invites the community to attend its ninth annual Snake River Family Festival on Saturday, June 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Boyer Park and Marina (1753 Granite Road, Colfax, WA 99111).
The event features a free lunch and Ferdinand’s ice cream while supplies last, live music by the Jon and Rand Band, river-related exhibitors, and fun activities for all ages. Admission, parking, and activities are free and open to the public.
Exhibitors will include the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife, Whitman County Sheriff’s Office, Tidewater Transportation and Terminals, Shaver Transportation Company, Northwest RiverPartners, We Work the Waterways, and the McGregor Company. Festival attendees can enter to win a half-day, guided Hells Canyon jet boat tour for two from Snake River Adventures by visiting each exhibitor booth and receiving stamps on their event “passport.” Raffle winners will be announced at the band stage at 1:30pm.
In addition, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will offer free tours of Lower Granite Dam during the festival. Participants can see the powerhouse and navigation lock, watch fish swim through the fish ladder, and learn about hydropower, river navigation, and more. To tour the dam, individuals must wear closed-toe shoes, provide a valid photo I.D. and meet the other posted tour requirements.
The Port of Whitman County hosts the Snake River Family Festival each year to highlight the importance of the Columbia-Snake River System (aka Marine Highway M-84) to Whitman County and the surrounding area.
