Port of Whitman County Purchases Parcel on Airport Road

Purchase adds to Port's real estate portfolio

Whitman County- Today, the Port of Whitman County closed on 113 acres near the Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport in Pullman, Washington. The Port plans to use the land for a business park.

Since 1958, the Port has bought and sold property to maintain a strong real estate portfolio. The Port owns five fully-developed industrial sites: the Ports of Wilma, Almota, and Central Ferry on the Snake River, the Port of Whitman Business Air Center (POWBAC) in Colfax, and the Pullman Industrial Park (PIP). These properties are mostly leased out. While the Port is working on expanding its real estate offerings with projects like the 15-acre Tekoa Mountain Business Park, more land is needed to attract firms to Whitman County.

“The Port has a long history of successful management of industrial properties,” Commission President Karl Webber said. “With this purchase and other developments across the county, the Port is working to fill the gap of site-ready land.”

The 113-acre site sits on Airport Road just across from the Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport. On January 8, the Port Commission voted to execute an earnest money agreement for the property. Port staff spent the last four months conducting due diligence. The Port worked closely with the City of Pullman throughout the due diligence process. Due diligence included a Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment, survey of the property lines, analysis of the impacts of the property’s proximity to the airport, and other exploratory actions.

“The Port thanks the City of Pullman leadership and staff for their support during our due diligence process,” Executive Director Kara Riebold said. “We are excited to continue the partnership needed to bring economic opportunities to Pullman and Whitman County.”

The Port has a successful history in Pullman with its development of the Pullman Industrial Park. The 113-acre property provides a location for future economic development work to benefit Pullman and the surrounding region.

"The City of Pullman is excited for the Port to own this property,” City of Pullman Mayor Francis Benjamin said. “The Port and the City have long worked together to promote economic development. We look forward to the Port's development of the site."
