Eighth annual Colfax Fly-In lands at Port of Whitman Business Air Center Sept. 23

Free, family-friendly event taking place from 8 a.m. to noon

Colfax — The eighth annual Colfax Fly-In and Pancake Breakfast is taking place from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Port of Whitman Business Air Center in Colfax.

The family-friendly community event is free to attend and will feature a variety of exhibitions and activities, including fly-ins and displays of classic, airshow and antique aircraft. Additionally, the Colfax Rotary Club will be serving a $10 pancake, sausage and egg breakfast from 8 – 10 a.m.

Attendees are invited to vote on their favorite aircraft before award presentations begin at 10:30 a.m. The award ceremony will commend people’s choice aircraft, longest distance flown and the oldest and youngest pilots to fly in.

Over 280 planes and helicopters and 1,575 attendees have turned out for the event since its inception in 2014. Although the event was suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, it has seen a resurgence over the past two years, having welcomed an estimated 40 aircraft to the airport during last year’s event.

During this year’s fly-in, local pilot Lyle Drader is offering 30-minute airplane rides over the Palouse for $50 per person. His plane can accommodate two adults, or one adult accompanied by two or three children, dependent on weight.

The Colfax Fly-In is hosted by the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 328 of Lewiston, Idaho and sponsored by the Port of Whitman County. As owner-operator of the Port of Whitman Business Air Center, the Port is proud to support opportunities that educate the community about aviation and its important role in our region’s multimodal transportation system. During the fly-in, the Port will have an informational display about its past and planned improvements for the Port of Whitman Business Air Center.
