National Ag Week 2021: Celebrating Our Whitman County Producers

Whitman County has much to celebrate this National Ag Week.

From wheat and barley to dry peas and garbanzos, our farmers are renowned for producing some of the best crops in the nation. This is, of course, challenging even in a good year.

Yet, during a year characterized by a global outbreak, our Whitman County farmers continued to feed the international supply chain, ensuring food security for millions of people.

President Joe Biden recently summed up the resilience of our nation’s agricultural workers this way:

“Over the last year, workers and other leaders across the agriculture sector have stepped up to ensure a stable food supply in the face of incredible challenges prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Farmworkers, who have always been vital to our food system, continued to grow, harvest, and package food, often at great personal risk. Local farmers helped to meet their communities' needs by selling food directly to consumers…These collective efforts helped get food to the millions of adults and children in America experiencing nutrition insecurity.”

The Port of Whitman County would like to thank our Whitman County farmers and their families during this National Ag Week. We are proud of your contribution to our nation’s food supply.
